The Executive Leadership Council Joins the Equilar Diversity Network, Leading Consortium Championing Diversity

November 17, 2020

REDWOOD CITY, CA (November 17, 2020) — Equilar is proud to announce that The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the pre-eminent membership organization committed to increasing the number of global Black executives in C-Suites, on corporate boards and in global enterprises, has joined the Equilar Diversity Network (EDN) as its newest partner.

With the addition of ELC, EDN continues to strengthen its focus to build the largest database of ethnically-diverse executive and board candidates to make it even easier for companies to connect with top minority candidates. African American/Black representation on public boards is 8.3% at the top 500 public companies by revenue. The ongoing efforts to bring visibility to highly qualified minority candidates have never been more critical to move the needle.

Launched in September 2016 to advance diverse representation in boardrooms across the globe, EDN now consists of more than 30 partner organizations and nearly 170,000 diverse board candidates, supplementing nearly one million candidate profiles already in the Equilar BoardEdge database. EDN is a consortium of leading diversity-focused organizations consolidating robust registries of board-ready executives into one searchable database.

Since the Network was founded, more than 2,000 members across EDN partner organizations have been appointed to corporate boards. The first phase of the EDN launch included driving increased reporting and visibility around gender representation in boardrooms of companies in the Russell 3000 index. Women now hold nearly 25% of board seats, up from 15% in 2016 when Equilar began quarterly reporting. Reaching gender parity is now attainable within the new decade as opposed to decades away. However, women minority candidates continue to see the lowest representation numbers on corporate boards today.

“The Executive Leadership Council is recognized globally as the leading organization promoting representation and opportunity for Black board members, C-suite executives and professionals,” said David Chun, CEO and founder of Equilar. “In adding ELC as a partner we are finding ways to advance opportunities for minorities in corporate boardrooms. It is core to our mission and we look forward to working closely with ELC to provide an additional platform for its members to collectively drive progress on such a critical governance issue.”

“Our partnership with Equilar helps us pursue one of our north star goals of increasing the number of Black executives on corporate boards,” said Crystal E. Ashby, Interim President and CEO of The Executive Leadership Council. “Leading companies will now have greater access to our hundreds of board-ready members as a result of our partnership.”
