Equilar 500

The Equilar 500 is an index composed of the largest companies by revenue trading on one of the major U.S. stock exchanges—NYSE, Nasdaq or NYSE American (formerly AMEX)—adjusted to approximate the industry sector mix of similar large-cap indices. Limiting the cutoff to any company that filed a proxy statement (DEF 14A) or disclosed compensation information in an amended 10-K filing (10-K/A) between May 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017, Equilar then ranked the companies by reported revenue related to the fiscal year of the appropriate proxy filing and filtered by the stock exchange they traded on as of April 30, 2017. After examining other large-cap indices and analyzing the industry distribution, we adjusted the top 500 companies by removing companies in industries that were overly weighted and adding companies in industries that were underrepresented.
