AIG CEO Transition Highlights Zaffino’s $174.5 Million in Realized Pay During Tenure

Peter Zaffino is stepping down as CEO of American International Group (AIG) and will transition to the role of executive chair. Zaffino is expected to retire as CEO by mid-2026.
Zaffino’s tenure at AIG began in 2017, and he has realized $174,498,782 in total compensation during that time. Since becoming CEO in 2021, Zaffino has realized $147,593,528.
As a part of a multi-year succession process, the Company’s board of directors has selected Eric Anderson to succeed Zaffino. Anderson, a longtime insurance industry executive, most recently with Aon, will join AIG as president on February 16, 2026, and is expected to assume the CEO role after June 1, 2026. He spent more than 30 years with Aon, holding several leadership roles and most recently serving as a strategic advisor to the company’s President and CEO.
