The Equilar 500 tracks the 500 largest companies trading on one of the major U.S. stock exchanges (NYSE, NYSE American or Nasdaq) by revenue. Limiting the cutoff to any company whose fiscal year end fell between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 and filed a proxy statement (DEF 14A) or disclosed compensation information in an amended 10-K filing (10-K/A), Equilar then ranked the companies by reported revenue related to the fiscal year of the appropriate proxy filing and filtered by the stock exchange they traded on as of April 30, 2020.
