|
Equilar has just released our latest report, on General Counsel pay in the Fortune 1000. This data comes from our proprietary Top 25 Survey, and can be found nowhere else. We studied 313 GCs in the Fortune 100 to see how mergers, governance, and other important issues are impacting their salaries.
Some of our findings:
- Pay is high—and rising. The median GC's total compensation value in 2010 was $1.4 million. For GCs who had more than one year of data, we found a 12.8 percent rise in median pay and an 18.3 percent rise in performance-based awards from 2009 to 2010.
- GCs who report to the CEO make more. The median pay for GCs reporting to the CEO was $1.558 million.
- A majority of GCs get perks. 65 percent of GCs studied were eligible to receive perquisites; those who reported to the CEO were more likely to receive them.
